Sustainable
aMortonDesign will be following up on the Solar and Wind Expo presentation "Real World Sustainable Design" with lectures at the Cambridge and Brookline Centers for Adult and Community Education.
For aMortonDesign, sustainability is not a one size fits all solution. Each project offers different opportunities and limitations. We work with clients and contractors to find the most appropriate solution for the values, goals, and budget of the project.
We are passionate about creating good design while balancing the concerns of reducing carbon footprint, supporting local business, and material lifecycle analysis. Adapting an existing building minimizes demolition sent to landfills and preserves the fabric and history of a community. Specifying materials produced locally supports the businesses and economy in your own backyard. Products and materials with high recycled content promote innovation in the effort to reduce waste which supports creativity in manufacturing. Designing and engineering for maximum energy efficiency reduces operating costs and conserves resources.
When materials need to be removed we find ways to reuse or donate items to minimize what goes to a landfill. Conversely, your project may be able to give new life to items salvaged from buildings that are historically or personally relevant.
