Kallari Cooperative Chocolate Factory
Submission for Open Architecture Network (OAN) design competition
Proposal for a new building in Equador for a community center for local cacao farmers, a destination for eco-tourism, and facilities for sale and production of artisinal chocolate. Projects were required to be able to attain LEED certification and this proposal focused on utilizing local materials and traditional building techniques to minimize site impact. The building is a series of pavilions connected by "bridges" reminiscent of the suspension bridges that span the many rivers in the region. The number of pavilions and their relationship refers to the organization of seeds in a cacao pod.
