Crystal Bridges Museum
of American Art
with Moshe Safdie and Associates
The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art is a new museum seeking LEED Certification in Bentonville, Arkansas. The building is designed to nestle into its surroundings with minimal environmental disruption and maximum experiential impact. Visitors arrive by car or bus and descend in a glass walled elevator and stair tower to the Entry Bridge near water level. Arrival by foot or bicycle is via a series of trails in a park which connects to downtown. The program includes galleries for painting and small sculpture; a world-class research library; offices and art prep studios; classrooms for youth and adult programs; Family Learning Center; meeting rooms; gift shop and café; restaurant and catering kitchens; and Great Hall that can transform from a darkened theatre for performance or to a light-filled space for special events.
